Cheap tickets, discount air flight travel or is it?

Cheap airline fares may look cheap but all the hidden extras soon add up. The office of fair trading in the UK has now made airlines include all their non optional extras in the fare so the adverts advertising flights from one penny may disappear for a while. We all know that the one penny fares do not include lots of extras such as airport taxes, airport security charges, fuel supplements and credit or debit card charges.

Here is an example of how the cheap airline fare isn’t quite as cheap.

Airline Fare

0.01

Airport Tax

15.21

Airport Security Charge

5.25

Fuel Surcharge

5.00

Debit card charge

1.50

Luggage Charge

5.00

Total Cost

31.97

So as you can see the one penny airfare can go up quite considerably, however if you book your flight earlier enough you can still get a cheap flight after all even a flight for £31.97 is still a bargain compared to what people used to pay for flights before the low cost carries appeared.

When the Airport has been moved by a public relations Company
Also remember that some of the airlines don't fly into the airport you think they are. A flight from Glasgow Prestwick to Paris is not a flight from Glasgow to Paris. Its a flight from Prestwick NOT Glasgow, Glasgow is 32 miles away. Beauvais is also NOT in Paris and there is an extra cost in time and money to get to Paris.

Tips on how to reduce the cost of your Airline Fare

Be flexible with your travel dates, it can be cheaper to fly mid-week

Book Early for busy holiday periods

Shop around or get a reliable agent to do this for you

Check nearby airports

Book a package deal it may work out better if you are going on vacation

Look for newspaper offers with low cost airlines (usually in the winter)

Charter Airlines – Holiday Companies Flights- Cheap flight companies

These flights operate on the opposite of the low cost airlines model. First the holiday company will try to sell as many seats as possible with accommodation. They will gradually reduce the cost or even increase to price daily to meet the demand. If one company has flights at a very low price then it is likely that the others will as well. If nobody wants to fly to Turkey with one company unless there is a specific problem then there will be lots of cheap flights left with them all. Of course this will be off-season and not during school holidays.
